Last day of 2023
Just as I thought I was going to abandon my little account on this website for good, I return to upload my one (1) recent digital drawing. I re-read my journal about 2021. I feel old - in a good way - and I feel grateful. 2023 has been a strange year. It has been an amazing year. It has been a terrible year. It's almost over, but the events begun this year are not. Others might also experience this sense of dual existence that strikes me when I read the news, when my various feeds flood with images of war and pleas for aid, worrisome predictions, dead waters, drowning cities and burning forests. I exist as part of this world. I also exist as part of my every day, where I have to think about my laundry, how my grandmother is doing, what to eat for dinner, and how excited I am to play another session of ttrpg with my friends. I'll write this recap like I used to, about the latter existence. Not because the other one doesn't exist or isn't as important (or more important). 2023 was a
2021 - endings, beginnings, words
For a few years, I had made it a habit to write some sort of end-of-year wrap-up, train-of-thought type of journal post and upload it to this website. And, well, there's a time for all things - the last journal I shared on my DeviantArt profile was a promotion for a roleplay group on the 4th of January 2020. Some time has passed, hasn't it? I remember that the inspiration for those journals was a friend of mine. Her words were inspiring: she wrote about the bad, but also the good things that had occurred over the span of a year, and in doing so also painted a picture of how much time a year actually is and how many things happen. Big and small things. Even when she was going through incredibly hard times, I recall reading her words and feeling hopeful for better times to come. I did not re-read my old journals before beginning this one. A mistake? Possibly. Who knows how many times I will repeat myself or write something that, upon scrutiny, turns out to be mistake-ridden. Take this
RP group promotion (hello!)
So if you happen to follow me on this site, you probably know I am mostly here to roleplay, doodle my roleplay things, and admire the art of others. A group I am in is hosting an opening, and their discord server is currently open for anyone interested in joining, so let me tell you a little about :iconninth-oracle: Ninth Oracle is an original xianxia (仙俠) genre roleplay group set in an alternate, fantasy world influenced by ancient China. Ninth-Oracle is having its second opening. It's a fun rp group with a cool little bunch of people who are, quoting, "stuck in chinese novel hell or have a craving for that Good Xianxia Aesthetic" - though, as I am proof of, you don't need to have prior knowledge of either to have fun! Reservations are currently open until 19 January. Join requests will be open from 06 January to 19 January.
Last Month of 2019
Last time I submitted a journal here was in June, so it feels like it might be about time. At the beginning of 2019, I was enjoying the aftermath of a New Year celebration, struggling through my time as a substitute teacher, and getting ready for another bout of uncertainty in the horizon. But what else really happened in 2019? This journal is going to be a bit of review for me, so feel free to skip it haha. In 2019... I spent 3 weeks of my summer abroad as a course leader in Brighton, and I had a most lovely visitor from Sweden drop by. I finally got to visit my roommate's (through 4 years and still going strong) family at her homestead on Funen, and I was welcomed by amazing friends in their homes in both Vienna and Edinburgh. When I am honest, I will say that my heart flutters a little at these memories, like it wishes to escape and fly back to these places - I so love travelling and I had a magical time there. I got to spend time with my family and friends, attending a really
